Luckily, I accomplished it smoothly and successfully about 6 minutes in the second time when I went to the other McDonald’s which locate in Fulton Street. I remember that only few people there. I was so nervous because I did reject by them about the receipt in the first time and I thought my special order would take long time to complete and maybe a lot of the staffs would get involve in it. So I walked up to the cashier who looked nice for me and made my order, “Can I get one small hamburger with four pickles on it and a small fries well done with no salt? ” After I took my order, she gazed on me and looked like can not heard clearly about my order then she asked me, “Excuse me, what you just say?” At that time, I was worried about my pronunciation and I told her again but slow down at this time. She answered, “Anything else?” Then I told her I also need a ranch snack wrap and a coke. After I took my order, she walked to the guy in the blue shirt to tell him about my special order in the hamburger with four pickles. And she walked to the other side to pick my fries, but I can not see what she done on my fries. Just few second, I was surprised that she took it as a normal order. Then I told her give me a receipt which state all my special orders.
After 2 minutes, when I get the receipt, there shows only four pickles burger but didn’t state well done fries with no salt. But she still looked nice and she told me her machine can not make this special receipt because there’s no spaces for that to print it out. After she explained to me, she gazed on me again, and she said “actually, the receipt isn’t that important, you just enjoy your order is fine”. Then I was shocked by what she just said. I can not tell her this is my assignment, so I told her I need to see the manager, I do really care about the receipt. After I requested to see her manager, she looked like so worried, she told me give her few minutes to do that for me then she walked back to the room. But after few minutes she brought back the receipt in hand writing shows that “fries well done with no salts” and the manager’s signature. It cost me about 6 minutes to get the order.
I opened the burger and checked my order that was exactly followed what I want. During the process I was treated nicely, the cashier very nice to take my order, and the guy just follow the order to make the burger, and finally get signature for my receipt, I remember that only three staffs involved in my case. I’m very satisfied with McDonald’s service, and I think this is an acceptable wait. Their customer service was nice because the cashier never argue with me when I gave them the order and did everything just right for my order. The way they handle special orders are effective. That is very important to a fast food restaurant because customers expect save time in such kinds of restaurants. The services they provide are also highly efficient, they don’t matter the customer’s request is reasonable or not. Obviously the manger and the cashier are rich experiences so that they solve troubles easily. They don’t waste time to argue with me or question me because time is money toward a fast food restaurant. I think my case didn’t challenge the manager but challenge the cashier, because the cashier is the one who always face the customer first. In my opinion, McDonald’s has a good system for the stuffs during their positions; they only focus on what they need to follow.
If I were brought in as a consultant to McDonald’s to help them improve their efficiency, I recommend that they should help and train the cashiers how to use the machine to make the perfect receipt. There’s a problem of a technical skill.
