Communicating via Blog

Communication is one of the most important skills. I believe we will be happier if we can improve our ability to communicate. This blog has been as a communications tool for the class. It provides a great way for me to learn about and from each other, about what they think about the subject matter, the class activities, and to provide a way to share thoughts and ideas with other people. I do strongly agree to create a blog, it’s benefited from meeting others online, also extended to communicating in class. We know that our class only have few hour a week, it’s not enough time to know each other and get the whole knowledge like a book, especially in the evening class, everybody hasty back home. Since I’m studying in college,I make rare new friends. So I think professor’s good idea that to write a blog gives us a good chance to learn more and communicate more.

This blog provides a good way to encourage students to think about the class activities we did. Every time we participate in class activities, we should understand why professor gave that assignment to us. To share our opinion, I think there’s no other good way since our class only few hours a week.

Through Professor’s blog, I found out some good views from those outside reading. As Professor Kurpis writes “Do what you love. We always find time to do what we love. When you do what you love, you do it well – you make a good job of it and you are rewarded along the way. Some things you just love for no discernible reason, and doing these things is no chore. When you’re doing something that makes you feel good and gives you a sense of purpose and achievement, you are at your most effective.” Although it’s not related to the class, it’s good for us to know or think about our future. Especially for me, as a second language student, I prefer to read more to improve my english.

Professor Kurpis provided a way for us to easily manage and control 20% of our grade that was not test related. I do really like some professors give us a chance which is count 20% in the homework. If they only count 100% for those exams, I think I will more anxieties towards the classes. As a full time students, I would like professor give us more options to make up our grade. I will continue to post my thoughts or ideas about school, work, life on my blog after this class ended, because communication is important for me to improve all my skills, such as writing skill, management skill, communicate skill, etc.

  1. I think you were very correct about the fact that it is an evening class and most people are too worried about getting home and the rest of us are just exhausted. My first class is at 7:50 am and my day ends with this class. By the time I come to management, I'm hungry, sleepy, and just about ready to go home. This assignment made it easier to interact with people outside of class and even more so the enthusiasm of the professor made it a fun semester. If we had a lecture everyday, I doubt I'd even be up half the time!

  2. I agree that it's a good idea to give the students some control as to how they learn the subject. To have the blog count for part of your grade really does decrease the stress from the exams. I also think that when students write down their opinions, and reflections about a topic they learn the subject a lot better. To many students cram material right before an exam, and then never really process the information. I think blogging is a great tool when English is your second language. I found it helpful as well to read, and comment on other people's blogs. Hope you continue blogging:)

  3. I agree with you that blogging extended the learning time from class sessions. Besides learning from class activities, we spend time and write our reflections on the blogs to further wrap up the lesson. Blogging is like doing a review on what we learned in class and it makes the class activities more remarkable in our memory.

  4. I also agree how this blog helps you to improve your writing skills if English is your second language. I don't promise anything but I may be posting some new thing from time to time. I really hope other people do the same thing! :)

  5. I also want to keep on posting on my blog, even after the class is finished. I used to do a lot of creative writing, and this definitely allowed me to get back into the habit of writing for myself. Even if the topic is management, it still serves as a creative tool. It's expanded my vocabulary without me realizing. It was perhaps my need to keep using new words which founded my new obsession with dictionary.com.
